STRONG IRISH
This is not your grandmother’s drink. Hard Chaw was born out of the need for a more potent Irish Whiskey cream that contains 50% more alcohol by volume than the traditional Irish Cream.
Hard Chaw is made exclusively in Ireland from Irish Whiskey, Irish Cream & Irish Potcheen (moonshine). This firewater was banned in Ireland for centuries and only recently legalized in 1997.
IRISH OWNED
Colm O’Neill from Cork is a former All-Ireland winning Gaelic Football player. Retired from sport, Colm became an entrepreneur in the hospitality industry in the US.
In addition to owning several Irish pubs, Colm created Hard Chaw, a uniquely Strong Irish Cream to fill the need for an authentically produced, high-strength Irish spirit in an otherwise monotonous market.
IRISH MADE
Knowing that high quality ingredients are paramount to a great tasting shot; we’ve combined craft distilled Potcheen and high-strength Irish Whiskey with dairy fresh cream, delivering a bold and delicious taste, with a Strong Irish kick.
Potcheen has a geographical designation from the EU. Any label that includes Potcheen must be distilled & produced entirely in Ireland.
WHAT IS A HARD CHAW?
Hard Chaw (Noun; Def): Hard Chaws are men and women strengthened by life’s challenges, who spend their days defying the odds. They are resistant blokes with iron chins — the Hard Chaw gets stronger with every blow he takes. You can’t knock him out, and you can’t make her quit. When others give up, you’ll find the Hard Chaw standing, full of courage, still persevering, still learning, refusing to quit until the job is done.
From the Bare-Knuckle Fighters, the Progress Builders, the Deep-Sea Divers, the First-Responders, to the Female Pilots of WWII, honoring these Hard Chaws by recounting their stories is not only an honor, but our duty. Please come back for a new tale every so often.
FEMALE PILOTS OF WWII
During WWII the United States faced a severe shortage of male pilots, so military leaders created a special unit called Women Airforce Service Pilots – WASP for short. These heroic fly girls, as they were known, piloted all sorts of military aircraft, including B-26 and B-29 bombers, as part of their responsibilities.
They ferried planes over long distances, from factories to bases, and even across enemy lines without ammunition. They tested overhauled planes, and flew experimental machines. Most baffling of all, they towed targets behind them to give ground and air gunners training, shooting with live ammunition.
The history of the fly girls includes thousands of stories of bravery, courage and heroism. One that stands out involves Ireland’s Achill Island emigrant Nancy Corrigan, who became one of America’s most elite female aviators and the first woman to train male fighter pilots in WWII.
Nancy, 17 at the time, chased the American Dream and moved to Cleveland, OH. after her father died and her mother didn’t have the means to raise her. During WWII the US Army recruited her, and she became one of the first women to train male cadets at Spartan College. She went on to compete in daring high-speed flying races, and even did so in the prestigious Kendall Trophy Race at the Cleveland Air Races in 1948.
Her trailblazing did not end there. Nancy became the first woman to lead the aviation department at Kansas University, in 1950. During the course of her long career, she earned virtually every aviation certificate available.
Nancy Corrigan was lucky — she survived the World War’s many challenging tests. But 38 WASPs lost their lives in the line of duty, a few during training, most during active duty missions. It is hard to believe, but WASPs were denied military status until the 1970s. In July of 2010, 65 years after their service, President Barack Obama signed a bill awarding them with this country’s highest honor, the Congressional Medal of Honor, for their invaluable service to the United States.
Were WASPs hard chaws? You bet — they capture the very essence of Hard Chaw. So let’s toast the great WASPs with a round of Hard Chaw, a drink inspired by the strength and pride of hard chaws like the female pilots of World War II.
